What is a grappa glass?

Grappa glasses are obviously named after the grappa. This drink is traditionally served in matching glasses. Grappa is a traditional northern Italian drink. The drink is related to wine. Grappa is made from the grape skins and pulp left over after wine making. This may sound a little irreverent, but grappa is certainly not a second-rate drink. Indeed, grappa has become very popular as a drink for real gourmets. Like wine, grappa is also served in specific glasses. Grappa glass has a distinctive, undulating and almost organic shape. The grappa glass is relatively small and stands on a relatively high stem. The bottom of the glass is always wide. The wide base combined with the high stem ensures that the grappa can always be served at the optimum temperature. The temperature is very important for the experience. Younger grappa are usually drunk at a temperature of 10 degrees, while for older grappa a temperature between 16 and 18 degrees is recommended. Grappa glasses are also wide at the top. This also has a reason: the wide opening allows the drinker to the aroma of the grappa to experience maximum. Because of these specific characteristics grappa glasses are also perfect for serving other (aromatic) aperitifs, dessert drinks or liqueurs.

Various types of grappa

Despite grappa glasses are quite specific and also with a reason in a certain way are designed, there are several types you can choose from. This has to do with the fact that grappa in different forms is drunk. Many people like pure grappa, but the drink is also regularly strengthened or supplemented with other flavors / drinks, or used as the basis for a cocktail. Different ways of drinking grappa naturally belong to different grappa glasses. Modern grappa variants are often served in a lower glass. For the classic or pure grappa is therefore a higher glass that you can grab the handle. The amount served depends on the age of the grappa, but also on the time of drinking. It may be used as an aperitif or to round off a successful meal. The amount of grappa served may vary. This may also depend on the age of the grappa and the corresponding alcohol percentage. To always be able to serve the right amount, you can choose from different grappa glass sizes.
